One of my favorite things about the San Diego wedding professional community is our support of one another. It definitely takes a team to create beautiful events, and strong relationships are the cornerstone. Peggi Walker has designed florals for a number of I Do...Weddings! brides. Personally, my husband had a business on Adams Avenue--where Metro Florals is located. I am so pleased to support Peggi, as she is a colleague to my entire family.

2. Tell me something about you.

I am a San Diego native and when I'm not planning events, I am a huge animal lover and movie buff. It makes me incredibly happy to celebrate the good in life--babies, engagements, weddings, new homes and jobs....all with fabulous parties and events!

3. Tell me a story.

I just had the coolest event over the weekend! 180 guests at the Dana, and man was it a great party! The best part besides the newlyweds saying I Do? I snuck out of the party and brough back 150 (yes, you read this right!) In and Out Burgers, for the guests, many of which were from places that don't have In and Out. I have a very strong relationship with their photographer Justin Lee (www.justinleephotography.com), so I enlisted him to stay at the end to get amazing shots of wedding guests getting their late night snack on:) I even asked the restaurant manager for paper hats (like the IAOB staffers wear) and got some great shots of the newlyweds. 1. why REVO? why did you join us?

I love the way our wedding industry has such a loving way of banding together for support. I feel it is truly a representation of how we believe in love, and it's amazing power- hence the reason we all work in this unique environment of happy couples just embarking on their own journey of love. REVO has emerged from the heart of a few people who opened themselves to feeling what it could be like to go through pain alone, and decided it wasn't necessary for anyone to have to go through that; and then took it to our amazing community of wedding vendors and asked for help- it's a simple concept, but revolutionary all the same. Changing the perception that pain has to be covered up and suffered through in secret in order to stay successful; rather it's bringing out the best in all of us- contributing in the unselfish way we would all like to see returned to us if we ever needed.

"Joes on the Nose" is all about coffee. Our Organic Espresso Bars use only socially responsible, certified organic (and locally roasted) organic espresso and organic milks. Our barista staff is trained to pour latte art in guests' drinks- hears are our favorites at a wedding. We've been open since 2007 and are proud to have brought smiles to people's faces at all sized weddings and events. Wedding Story

We have lots of wedding stories. We're proud of the response from guests at events. At a wedding of owners of local coffee shops (who, obviously, care about their coffee) we had their shop staff talking about our drinks- and asking our baristas questions. Groups of Italians (who flew in for the wedding) have thanked us for a "proper" cappuccino, which they had yet to find in the US. We love when mothers of the bride let us know how much their guests enjoyed the service, and how "they couldn't stop talking about the coffee bar." We're just stoked to be a part of someone's big day and to give our clients a fun addition to their celebrations.

REVO first began in 2007 when a close friend was solely funding an Orphanage in Malawi, Africa.

We pulled together our towns best artists and fashion designers in hopes to raise some funds for this orphanage and called

it REVO. At the time we didn't think too much of it.

But before we knew it the idea to raise funds and awareness through doing the things you love caught on. You see, a lot of people

want to make a difference and just don't know how. REVO simply provides you with the tools needed to raise funds and awareness for the causes you are passionate about (regardless of age, sex, color, or religion).

REVO is now located in 15 states and 5 countries and we are running to keep up with it.

It's a honor to be a part of starting something this beautiful.

About Us:

With a passion for photography based on the client's interest and artistic tastes, Emilio Azevedo strive to deliver images that capture the essence of each person, place or object. Born in Brazil Emilio start photographing weddings learning and improving his skills. Emilio went to a well known county photography school SFF in his city (Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro - Brazil) to learn all the technical part that involves photography.
I believe that the real task of a wedding photographer involves responsibility for portraying emotion through pictures and simultaneously telling a story about the wedding day. This doesn't mean relying on clichês or forcing people into unnatural positions or awkward poses. Rather, it's about taking what is natural to people and refining that with a few simple rules of color, composition and balance.

I am always looking for ways to help out local charities. I am a firm believer in the fact that the wedding industry is the greatest industry you could ever be a part of and that we're not just colleagues, but family. Anything I can do to help out another member of our group is such a rewarding experience. BRANCHES....a floral studio, is the newest addition to a long history of passion and love that I have for this wonderful industry. For over 10 years I have worked in almost every position the wedding industry has to offer. From cake decorating, to catering, to floral designing, to wedding planning, everything has been experienced first hand to make sure I have the utmost level of expertise for my clients. I started my own wedding planning company over 5 years ago, while also working as a lead floral designer for a local floral company, after many of my clients started to request my floral services I decided to "branch out" and launch my own wedding and event floral design company. I love working with flowers, it's such a great way to spend your day. It's the best feeling in the world to be able to bring a bride her bouquet and just see her face light up with excitement. Weddings are truly my greatest passion in life.

True story: I've been planning a wedding with a couple for over a year. Not only was I their wedding planner but also their florist. This wedding was to take place on Thursday April 15th 2010 (tax day) On Monday April 12th I received a call from our wedding venue, the W Hotel, reporting that our beach bar venue we had booked for our ceremony and reception had burned down Sunday night. I had 3 days to come up with a whole new wedding, new plan, and new theme. After calling all my vendors requesting their flexibility and patience while we figured this out, I picked up my frantic bride and proceeded to rush down to see how bad this damage was and what our options were. Needless to say I was in full creative overhaul mode by the time we saw our options. We looked all over San Diego for other venue options and the bride and groom just weren't pleased with anything. As a last resort the W showed us another lounge room they had as an option, the bride and groom weren't in love with it but were open to suggestions. I stepped up and began showing them the potential this room had, and how with some new floral decorations on my part we could transform this room into something that would be prefect for them. I drew diagrams and created new centerpieces and floral decor ideas on the spot and they agreed that it would work after all. After needing to order extra flowers and get new vases last minute, and create more decor then originally planned, the flowers were a total hit! Everyone commented on how beautiful they were, how the bride and groom had such good taste to pick out such wonderful arrangements, and how perfect they were for this wedding. The bride and groom were ecstatic! Even with all the stress that week held their day was perfect. The bride reflected the next day saying it was the happiest day of her life. It doesn't get much better then that, and now I know I can handle anything that comes my way! BRANCHES... a floral studio

My thoughts on Revo Weddings:

One of the things I love about my job as a Wedding Coordinator in San Diego is being part of the 'wedding and special events community'. The people in this community are absolutely amazing and after years of getting to know them, I consider many of them my dear friends. It warms my heart to know that we look out for each other and truly care about PEOPLE because that is the essence of our jobs and businesses.... helping couples on their most important day and helping others with their very special events.

When Revo Weddings was started to help Peggi Walker, I knew right away that I was "in"! It is exhilarating to see how the community has come together to support an individual and do all they can to make sure that she can focus her energies on healing. I cannot help but think that if something tragic ever happens to me, I would have the support of the community, and that is a heartwarming type of "insurance" to have.

I was posting on my shewanders blog and decided to post it on REVO as well =) Here goes "It occurred to me that I have one more person to thank. At some point between now and April 2011 I am going to photograph a REVO wedding. We will get to photograph the ceremony, the romantics, the first dance, and meet all the friends and family of a couple that hired us through the REVO auction. That couple will have helped me in so many ways. They will have given to my friend Peggi and helped me realize the dream of REVO weddings. They are like a validation that -People are Great. At the start of this auction I really hoped that people would give of themselves for someone else. There were naysayers at the start, people who wondered if we could pull off an online auction people, who wondered who would even donate. I just couldn't shake the feeling that given the chance our industry would surround Peggi in hope, love, community and they did. So thanks, who ever you are that bids on us. You are amazing to me. Why Revo?

We are all in this business together, and when one of us needs a helping hand, we should all pitch in to aim for the best possible outcome. I've always loved how for the most part everyone looks out for everyone else in this industry, and there is no reason why this idea can't translate to our personal lives.

Wedding story:

I sometimes DJ with a live drummer who matches his drumming in time to the song I am spinning. One wedding he was on a short break outside to rest his arms and suddenly the uncle of the bride surprised us all by jumping behind the kit and playing for the next 25 minutes perfectly with my music. He said he hadn't played in 5 years and it all just came back to him. It was all unplanned but the bride and groom thought we had set it up to surprise them. The dance floor was packed and the uncle got a standing ovation at the end of his set.

About me:

I believe DJs should add their style and musical interpretation and take nothing away from an event. I don't speak on a microphone unless its called for, and I know how to read a crowd to change the play list to keep them on the dance floor. I let the music get the crowd on their feet and don't make over the top announcements or play games. I customize my play list for every client and with a list of a few songs I can build a play list for a whole event easily.

Why Revo?

I chose to participate with Revo because I think the auction is a wonderful idea, and I think donating to someone in need is the best thing a person can do. We all need some help at some point in our lives, and what a great way for our wedding industry to do what we can to make someone's life easier.

Wedding Story

One of my brides is a huge Disney fan, and she absolutely had to incorporate Disney into her wedding somehow. After all, her fiance proposed to her by asking her through one of the Disneyland bricks you can purchase that sit throughout the park. It said, "Mary Meeh." So, being the die-hard Disney fan that she is, she made everyone think she was walking down the aisle from the rear of the winery. When in fact, she was came around the front on the Cinderella carriage surprising everyone. All you heard were "oohs and ahhhs" as she made her grand debut. It was memorable, unexpected, and simply perfect for her.

REVO is so indebted to Tara, Amanda, and the whole gang at Bob Hoffman video. They made us two super pro videos for REVO. One of our lovely miss Kate from Resolusean Events explaining what REVO weddings is all about and the other is an interview with Peggi. Thank you Thank you thank you!!!

why revo? why did you join us? or what does revo mean to you?

Peggi has been a close friend of Bob and his wife, Tara, for years and years. When Sabrina of La Dolce Idea called to tell us about REVO we were blown away. Not just because Peggi had cancer and that an amazing organization was being formed in her name, but because we had no idea about any of it. We worked with Peggi so closely on a recent wedding, but she kept everything she was going through under wraps so as not to overshadow the brides special day. We thought that took a huge amount of compassion and strength to keep her personal struggle a secret for the sake of her client and friend. Once we had an understanding of what REVO was we were automatically on board. Tara and Bob are very generous and always willing to help their friends. Making a video was the best way for us to donate our time and services while helping REVO gain support. So, brides: watch the video and bid on some awesome wedding resources! To us REVO is proof that the wedding industry of San Diego really cares and knows how to work together. We are not cut throat competitors out to make a buck, but real people who care about each other and what we do. I hope that REVO will extend past Peggi and continue to unite the industry and help those in need.

Also, when I was first hired Tara told me a story (she tells a lot of stories) about how several of our clients homes have burned down in the past San Diego fires. Many of them have called us and asked us to dig up their special event videos from our archives. We also get calls from our clients to reedit videos or make copies when a family member passes away. Knowing that for some people, the videos we made are the ONLY record they have of their family is really impactful. It is a reminder that what we do is incredibly important to our clients. It puts the normal day to day tasks into perspective.

Why REVO? --For me, REVO manifest friendship, loyalty, and determination, a friend reaching out unwavering, to make a difference. When Suzanne invited me to take part in this extraordinary undertaking I could not have been more honored.

Peggi, I only know you through Suzanne’s heartfelt story about you, nevertheless, I feel as though you are a friend of mine. My heart goes out to you and your loved ones. May your tears become your smiles and your concerns become your courage.

Sharon is an amazing florist and friend. She is the person who suggested I team up with Kate, Meaghan, and Sabrina -the REVO board. So you can see why I think Sharon is pretty great =) xoxo suzanne
Why REVO? Because tragedy just strikes, it doesn't pick and choose based on who can afford the fight, it just strikes. This could be happening to any one of us, Peggy is any one of us. We live within our community, a group of self employed artists which understand what happens when you can't work. We've chosen a life outside the office and with that comes no safety net, we have to be eachother's safety net.

A wedding story The last two pics are from a wedding that this story is from, it was last August. The mother of the bride's mom had recently passed away and they were going to have a small memorial table with her pictures at the wedding, of course we comped an arrangement for it immediately. Later on into the planning both mother and daughter (bride) told me that they had something they wanted to add into the arrangements (one chose ceremony and the other chose a particular centerpiece) that they didn't want he other one knowing about. At our final meeting each gave me a box with instructions as to how they wanted me to add this crystal figure into their chosen arrangement. I open up both boxes, they are the exact same crystal dragonflies which they each explained was a symbol for the grandmother who had passed. Both bride and mom choked up as they witnessed the figure that the other had purchased for them. True story :) You can see the crystals hanging below the floral and fabric arch in the pic, the central one is the dragon fly.

As a cancer survivor myself it was important to me to give back to someone who needs the help. There are so many emotions involved with cancer – fear, disappointment, anger, frustration… finances shouldn’t be the reason an individual doesn’t have the strength to beat this vicious disease. I joined REVO as a means of lifting one of the many burdens of dealing with (and beating) Cancer.

I’m so proud of my relationships with my clients. I’ve been fortunate enough that all of my clients have become friends; it makes me love what I do. I have the ability to positively affect one of the biggest days of their lives and walk away from each event knowing that all the effort is worth it because my clients leave smiling, stress free, and so in love with one another. Isn’t this what it’s all about? LOVE? I sure think so…

revo i am so in love with you

hi folks, we are gearing up for the auction, and the count down is on!! I am so overwhelmed at all of the generosity in this town. thank you thank you thank you. Last week I hung out with Peggi for a couple of hours during chemo. It wasn't as scary as I thought. It was nice to have a chance to catch up with Peggi and hear from her doctor that she is winning. Tara from Bob Hoffman video joined us and we had some girl time. I was so nervous for days knowing that I was going to meet them at chemo. Mike was really sweet and did his best to distract me. It wasn't what I expected, we laughed and traded mascara secrets. Apparently, the bad part of chemo is how you feel the days following the treatment. Two days later Peggi called me while I was out with some friends and said her numbers had improved drastically. Her numbers let us know that she is getting better. It was definitely a milestone in this path to OK that I have been hoping for all along. After I hung up with her, I started crying. It was the first time I cried. I was too in shock to cry when she told me she had cancer and was putting "beat cancer" on her to do list. I felt like helping would be so much more useful then crying. I guess I felt like if I cried then I wasn't believing it would all be ok. Now that things are more on the path to being OK it's so much easier to have happy tears. Let's keep this revolution going!! hugs suzanne

Hard Rock Hotel: Wedding Party Bridal Show

Yesterday, we had an exciting day: our first public exposure to brides and grooms! The Hard Rock Hotel: Wedding Party Bridal Show was incredible! We had unbelievable crowds come through the space and we were able to share the message of REVOweddings with vendors and engaged couples alike. We even received our first donation!

Sabrina Cadini of La Dolce Idea, Kate Capshaw of Resolusean Events and Meaghan Schmaltz of Weddings Made Splendid spread the word about REVOweddings by handing out some adorable "coupons" to the attendees of the show and explained how engaged couples can save money on their wedding vendors. The response was incredible. Brides, grooms, family and bridal party members were so excited about the idea of doing something good for the wedding community while getting the services they need for their upcoming weddings. Overall, the response was overwhelming and we can't thank our vendors enough for helping us spread the good word of REVOweddings.

Week 2

Here we are, in week two of the creation of the new REVOweddings movement in San Diego. We met at Eclipse Chocolate on El Cajon Boulevard and had a great meeting of the minds to prepare for the upcoming "The Wedding Party - Bridal Show" on March 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel.
